The Port Colborne Lions club will be hosting the annual Purina Walk For Guide Dogs on Sunday, May the 26th. This family event allows participants to bring their canine friends along a pre-planned walk route to raise money for the Lion’s Foundation of Canada, which supports the raising and training of dog guides for those with disabilities. We are seeking volunteers to pledge and raise much needed funds.
The Purina Walk for Dog Guides is a national fundraising walk held in more than 250 communities across Canada. It raises funds to help train Dog Guides for Canadians with visual, hearing, medical or physical disabilities. Each Walk is organized by local volunteers with support from Lions Foundation of Canada. To date, the Walks have collectively raised more than $9 million.
The Walk For Guide Dogs supports the following programs:
CANINE VISION DOG GUIDES for people who are blind or visually impaired
HEARING EAR DOG GUIDES for people who are deaf or hard of hearing
SPECIAL SKILLS DOG GUIDES for people with a medical or physical disability
SEIZURE RESPONSE DOG GUIDES for people who have epilepsy
AUTISM ASSISTANCE DOG GUIDES for children with autism spectrum disorder
DIABETIC ALERT DOG GUIDES launching in 2013

Time: Registration starts at 10am, walk begins at 11am
Location: Port Colborne Lions Club Hall, 49 Chippawa Rd., Port Colborne
Walk Duration: Approx. 45 minutes
Registration and pledge sheets are available at local pet stores and businesses.
Watering stations will be provided along the route for our canine friends to have a drink. All participants will be provided with a BBQ lunch at the end of the walk.
